J. J. Arndt, 50, Fireman Here, Dies at Home
Stricken at Fire Station Last Evening, Was Veteran Driver

A heart attack,
which he suffered last night, caused the death a short time later of Julius J.
Arndt,
Mr. Arndt died at
his home after being stricken at the city hall fire department station. His nephew, Edward Arndt, walked home with him
after he had complained of being ill. He
died a short time after reaching the house.
Yesterday Mr. Arndt
had been on duty at the fire station. In the afternoon he complained of feeling
ill and went to lie down in the sleeping quarters. A few hours later he arose and apparently felt
better. After eating supper at the station
he again complained of illness and again went to lie down. About

telephone call came in reporting that a milk truck was on fire at the Garden
Homes filling station. Mr. Arndt wanted
to drive one of the trucks and had already put on his coat and was ready to
climb to the driver's seat when he was prevailed upon by other men in the place
not to make the run.
His condition became
worse and a short time later his nephew who was at the city hall walked home
with him, a distance of only a few blocks. At the house he collapsed and died at

Mr. Arndt was born in Watertown and had lived here all his life. He was a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Arndt. He was married 24 years ago to Miss Anna
Irene Boelter of this city.
Surviving are his
wife, one daughter, Miss Lucille Arndt, at home; a brother, Leonard Arndt, this
city; five sisters, Mrs. Henry Priem, Milwaukee; Mrs.
Paul Kolinsky, Watersmeet, Mich,
Mrs. Joseph Fitzgerald, Ellison Bay, Wis., Mrs. Elsa Schmeichel,
Milwaukee, and Mrs. Edward Samuelson, also of Milwaukee.
Mr. Arndt was a
veteran member of the fire department having served on the regular department for
almost 25 years. Prior to that he was for some years a member
of the volunteer department.
Practically everyone
who knew Mr. Arndt knew him as "Poolie." Congenial and friendly, he had many friends in
the community. News of his sudden death came as a. shock to all of them.
The funeral will be
held Tuesday afternoon at
Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The Rev. William B. Petherick, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church,
will officiate.
Friends may call at
the home to pay their respects beginning Sunday evening and also Monday afternoon
and evening and Tuesday up to the time of the funeral.
Mayor WaIter A. Nack announced this
afternoon that city officials, including members of the city council, will meet
at the city hall Monday evening at
